The face is carved into the glass. Eyes, nose and grin are formed in the body rather than painted on, so there is nothing to peel and nothing to wash off.
The pour does the lighting. A dark bourbon behind the carving gives the face its glow. Empty, it goes back to plain glass — which is why it works in November too.
High borosilicate, not soda-lime. Thicker-walled and steadier through a temperature change than ordinary bottle glass, which matters on a piece with carved sections.
